New Member Process and Sponsor Responsibilities

Updated July 27, 2005

  1. The prospective new member must live or work in the Lake Country Rotary area and be sponsored by an existing Lake Country Rotary member.
  2. The prospective member should attend at least two meetings as a guest of the sponsor. (PLEASE NOTE: The sponsor will be charged for the cost of the meals until the formal membership application is completed and submitted.)
  3. Sponsors should provide that guest with a new member packet and assist the prospective member in fulfilling their Red Star responsibilities. (The Executive Secretary has packets available and the guest should receive it at their second meeting.)
  4. A completed and signed membership application should be submitted to the Executive Secretary. At that point, the prospective new member will become a Club guest vs. a sponsor guest.
  5. The membership application will then be submitted to the Board of Directors either at a Board meeting or via e-mail for their tentative approval. Each application should have a proposed classification.
  6. The prospective member's name will then be published in the Lake Country Rotary newsletter for the membership to review. Should an existing member have a question or concern about the prospective member, they should contact the Club president within one week after this publication.
  7. At the next Board meeting, the Board will take action on the proposed member. The sponsor of the newly approved member will be contacted following the Board meeting and an official invitation to join will be made to the prospective new member.

PLEASE NOTE: The membership process is designed to create a bond between the sponsor and the potential new member. The membership process will take six to eight weeks.
